BAcc/SCMThe V250, also know as
Albatros orDodo is a newhigh-speed train build by AnsaldoBreda and styled byPininfarina , designed to operate on the newly build HSL-Zuid inthe Netherlands .NS Hispeed will operate these trains on the internal shuttleservice between the cities along the line. The name is a reference to the top speed of the trains, 250 km/h. While this is slow compared to other high-speed trains, but significantly higher than the current top speed for Dutch trains, which have a top speed of 160 km/h.
The distinctive styling of the trains has sometimes been compared to aplatypus .Operation
The trains are multi current and can run on all major electrification systems in Europe, and are standard equiped with multiple train protection systems, allowing the trains to run in
Belgium ,Germany andthe Netherlands . But for the time being, they will only see service as a shuttletrain betweenAmsterdam ,Rotterdam ,The Hague ,Breda ,Antwerp andBrussels , with no plans on running them into Germany.Delivery problems
The trains were originally intended to be delivered in 2007, but by August 2008 only a single prototype has been delivered to a test track in the
Czech Republic , which appears to be inoperable, and may not see testing before 2009. [http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpost.php?p=23517278&postcount=405] However, in light of AnsaldoBreda's reputation, it is questionable if they will be delivered anytime soon.References
