Career

Anchor and Investigative Reporter Mary Garofalo, is a native of Toronto, she began her broadcast news career in radio, later moving on to television with City TV in Toronto as an anchor and reporter.

Her first job in New York City was as the prime time News Anchor for WPIX television nightly news where she was hired to replace Donna Hanover, ex-wife of former mayor of New York City, Rudy Giuliani. Garofalo was seen nationally in the U.S. covering stories for the syndicated news magazine show and News Corp Property A Current Affair. She worked as a reporter and anchor until the show ended in 1996. She spend six years covering national and international stories including the Persian Gulf War, Bill Clinton/White House scandal, the Branch Davidian: Waco Siege, the Susan Smith murder case and the Sicilian Mafia in Italy.

In 1996 she was hired to create and head an investigative unit for WNYW FOX 5 NEWS. As Senior Investigative Anchor and Reporter for Fox Broadcasting Company in New York City, at WNYW-Fox 5 News her tenacious reports with Fox 5 Investigates earned her a reputation as an "electronic pitbull" and one of the toughest reporters in the city. Her hard hitting investigations landed con artists behind bars, uncovered Political corruption and exposed countless scams. She was on the front lines covering the attack on the World Trade Towers September 11. Mary has won 7 Emmys and has been honored with dozens of nominations.

In 2008 Mary was hired by Global Television to help create and launch 16X9 "The Bigger Picture", a National Investigative News Magazine show. Mary's duties included Primary Host, Investigative Reporter and Senior Consulting Producer for 16X9. Among her award winning investigations was a story featuring an exclusive jail house interview with Shareef Abdelhaleem, a prominent member and ring leader of the "Toronto 18", a home grown terrorist group, who plotted to bomb downtown Toronto and behead the Prime Minister of Canada. It was the first and only interview with a member of the infamous terrorist group. Her investigation uncovering the high tech world of "Electronic Pick Pocketing" earned her a Gemini Award in August 2011. It is Canada's most prestigious journalism award representing the best in Canadian Television. It also marked 16X9's highest rated program to date. Mary was also recognized by the RTNDA for her exclusive investigation looking into the "business" of Botox, exposing confidential information makers of the cosmetic drug hoped to hide from the public.

Other credits include working as a consulting producer for TV movie Legacy Of Sin: The William Coit Story. Mary holds duo citizenship in both United States and Canada. She is a member of Association Of Investigative Reporters & Editors.

She is married to prominent New York lawyer and former Bronx District Attorney Angelo MacDonald. They reside in Toronto and New York City.

Recognition

Garofalo's investigative reports have won her seven Emmy awards, also the prestigious Canadian Gemini Award which honors the best in Canadian television. Mary has also received dozens of nominations. She's a two time Associated Press award winner and took home an Award for Excellence in Communication from the State University of New York State College of Optometry. She was also named 2005 Woman of the Year by the Police Society of New Jersey.
