Renovation

Due to its age and with an eye towards the upcoming 2009 IIHF World Championships, the arena is currently being renovated. The holder invested about CHF 100 million (~$100 million) into the extension and restoration of the building. It is planned to finish the modification before April 24, 2009, when the World Championships start. The interior of the arena will be nearly obtained, especially the steep standing room stand, which is very popular with the fans. However the VIP-zone will be entirely rebuilt and the capacity there will be extended by about 500. The total capacity will remain at about 17,000 spectators [ [http://www.postfinancearena.ch/index.php?page=139 PostFinance-Arena | Umbauprojekt ] ] .
