Overview

Established in 2010, the English-speaking school offers the International Baccalaureate program throughout all year groups. The school caters for students in Year 6 through to Year 13, having previously hosted only students in Years 7 through 12 during it's inaugural academic year (2010/11).[2]

The school campus is based on the premises of a 17th Century palace,[2][3] the Quinta de Nossa Senhora da Conceição in Barcarena, Oeiras. The 5 hectare campus was newly refurbished in 2011, boasting a vast array of state-of-the-art amenities.[2] During it's inaugural year (2010/2011), the school opened at temporary premises, located at Fundição de Oeiras,[4][5][6][7] but has since been located at it's present campus.[2]

OIS has ambitious plans to become an Eco-School and intends to promote Environmental Awareness and Social Responsibility with the provision of scholarships and community service.[5][6]

At a launch event held at Hotel Palacio in Estoril in 2010, the school's Principal described the school saying "OIS is committed to promoting quality education and values in a changing world, encouraging students to become responsible for their own learning. We will focus on intellectual rigour, helping all students to achieve their full potential".[8]

Motto

The school motto is Sapere Aude (Dare to Learn).[2]

Vision

The school commits to impart the core values of 'Awareness' and 'Respect' and to promote 'Celebration' and 'Growth' through quality education. It focuses on intellectual rigour, to help all students achieve their maximum potential.[2]
