Official siteCS Oltchim Râmnicu Vâlcea is a Romanian women's handball club from Râmnicu Vâlcea, that plays in the Liga Naţională and in the EHF Women's Champions League.[1]
The club was founded on 27 June 1973 under the name "A.S. Chimistul Râmnicu Vâlcea".[2] It was part of a sports program initiated by the local chemical company (now Oltchim).[2] Its first coach was Constantin Cinca. Under his guidance, the team moves from the 3rd division to 2nd division in 1980.[2] Two seasons later, under its new coach Constantin Popescu, the team advances to the Liga Naţională.[2]
On 1 October 1989, the club's name is changed to "CSM Oltchim Râmnicu Vâlcea".[2] The existing name will be later given on 1 May 1997, when the club became a private club.[2]
With its impressive 17 National titles (record), CS Oltchim Râmnicu Vâlcea is considered to be one of the best Romanian women's handball teams.[2]
On April 18, 2010 Oltchim qualified for the Champions League final for the very first time in history.[2] It was also the first final for a romanian women's handball club, after the one lost by Ştiinţa Bacău in 1986.[2]
