Biography

Habu became a professional in 1985. He was promoted to 9 dan in 1994.

The number of titles he won is 2nd on the all-time list behind Yasuharu Oyama).Fact|date=October 2008. Oyama wins 80 titles, while Habu got 71 at September 2008.

He dominated all 7 major titles (Ryu-oh, Meijin, Kisei, Oi, Oza, Kioh, and Osho) in 1996 (from February 14 to July 30).

Habu is also one of the best chess players in Japan, with an ELO rating of 2404 (January 2007).
