Staines to Windsor & Eton Line

Staines to Windsor & Eton Line

The Staines to Windsor Line is a suburban railway line operated by South West Trains (SWT) in England that was completed in 1849. The line splits from the Waterloo to Reading Line at Staines in Surrey and runs to Windsor in Berkshire, England. Services on this line run beyond Staines to and from London Waterloo, and almost all call at the following stations:

* London Waterloo
* Vauxhall
* Clapham Junction
* Putney
* Richmond
* Twickenham
* Whitton
* Feltham
* Ashford (Surrey)
* Staines"then splitting from the Waterloo - Reading line and calling at:"
* Wraysbury
* Sunnymeads
* Datchet
* Windsor and Eton Riverside

The service frequency is 2tph in each direction throughout the day, every day. The exception is early on Sunday mornings when there is only 1tph in each direction. The journey from Windsor to London takes around 55 minutes to complete, which is considerably longer than the Great Western branch line from Windsor and Eton Central to London Paddington, even with a change of trains at Slough.

Due to short platforms at Sunnymeads and Datchet stations, customers need to join the front four coaches of an eight-car train.

The line was electrified (750v DC third rail) by Southern during the inter-war years.

AirTrack

As part of the proposed AirTrack rail link, a new station, to be called Staines High Street railway station would be built between the existing Staines railway station and Wraysbury on the Windsor Line. It is not known whether this would lead to the existing Staines station being renamed to avoid confusion.

Places served

The line serves the following towns and villages
* Staines
* Wraysbury
* Sunnymeads
* Datchet
* Windsor and Eton

The Windsor and Eton Line is one of the most crowded lines on the South West Trains network.Fact|date=September 2007
