Katharine Holabird

Katharine Holabird (born January 23 1948, Cambridge, Massachusetts) is an American-born, British-based children's writer, best known for creating the popular adventures of Angelina Ballerina, the ballet-dancing mouse. She has also written "Alexander and the Dragon", about a young boy who fears nothing except the darkness and shapes in his room at night.

Holabird grew up in Chicago, Illinois and studied literature at Bennington College in Vermont which inspired her to take up a writing career. Upon graduation from Bennington, she worked as a literary editor for a year, before staying on in Rome, Italy after a holiday where she learned Italian and worked as a writer for film magazine "Variety"'s Rome office.

In 1974, Holabird moved to London, England where she worked as a nursery school teacher and had two daughters and a son. In 1982, she joined forces with English illustrator Helen Craig to create the first in a series of Angelina Ballerina books. She has collaborated with Craig on several other children's books.

She currently lives in North London with her family.
