Rear Admiral George Heneage Lawrence Dundas CB (8 September 1778 - 7 October 1834) was a senior naval officer and First Sea Lord.

Naval career

Dundas was a junior officer on HMS "Queen Charlotte" in March 1800 when the ship was accidentally destroyed by fire: he distinguished himself during the rescue [ [http://www.elliottdundas.freeserve.co.uk/zetland/record_52.htm HMS Queen Charlotte Fire] ] .

He rose to the most senior offices in the Royal Navy and served as First Sea Lord in 1834.

Political career

Dundas also served as Member of Parliament for Richmond and later on for Orkney and Shetland.

Literature

Dundas was featured as a major supporting character in the Aubrey-Maturin series by Patrick O'Brian. O'Brian depicts Dundas as shipmates with Jack Aubrey as midshipmen in several commissions.
