Caswell Beach is a town located on the eastern part of Oak Island in Brunswick County, North Carolina, and is adjacent to the North Carolina Baptist Assembly and the island's United States Coast Guard station. It was incorporated as a town in 1975. The population was 370 at the 2000 census. The Oak Island Lighthouse towers over the town, which now owns the structure.

Geography

Caswell Beach is located at coor dms|33|54|13|N|78|3|38|W|city (33.903609, -78.060637).GR|1

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 4.2 square miles (10.7 km²).3.1 square miles (8.0 km²) of it is land and 1.1 square miles (2.8 km²) of it (26.02%) is water.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 370 people, 187 households, and 138 families residing in the town. The population density was 120.7 people per square mile (46.5/km²). There were 571 housing units at an average density of 186.3/sq mi (71.8/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.38% White, 0.54% African American, 0.54% Asian, and 0.54% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.81% of the population.

There were 187 households out of which 9.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.5% were married couples living together, 4.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.7% were non-families. 21.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.97 and the average family size was 2.25.

In the town the population was spread out with 7.8% under the age of 18, 1.6% from 18 to 24, 11.4% from 25 to 44, 43.5% from 45 to 64, and 35.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 60 years. For every 100 females there were 89.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.3 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $57,083, and the median income for a family was $63,750. Males had a median income of $49,063 versus $35,625 for females. The per capita income for the town was $41,731. None of the population or families were below the poverty line.
