Forest Hills is a borough in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 6,831 at the 2000 census.

Forest Hills is located at coor dms|40|25|19|N|79|51|7|W|city (40.421918, -79.851872)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 1.6 square miles (4.0 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 6,831 people, 3,050 households, and 1,976 families residing in the borough. The population density was 4,381.3 people per square mile (1,690.7/km²). There were 3,203 housing units at an average density of 2,054.4/sq mi (792.7/km²). The racial makeup of the borough was 94.73% White, 2.99% African American, 0.03% Native American, 1.33% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.19% from other races, and 0.72% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.72% of the population.

There were 3,050 households out of which 24.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.3% were married couples living together, 8.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.2% were non-families. 30.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.24 and the average family size was 2.82.

In the borough the population was spread out with 19.7% under the age of 18, 4.5% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 26.5% from 45 to 64, and 21.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 87.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.5 males.

The median income for a household in the borough was $44,922, and the median income for a family was $56,199. Males had a median income of $42,903 versus $31,103 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $26,505. About 4.7% of families and 5.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.2% of those under age 18 and 2.7% of those age 65 or over.
